Biography

Catherine Schaefer is a third year graduate student focusing on cognitive processes underlying gender development.  Specifically, she is interested in the development of atypical gender identities, and how theories on typical gender development may be broadened to include more diverse populations.  Catherine got her BA in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, and spent the following 8 years working on executive function development in preschoolers with Dr. Stephanie Carlson at the Institute of Child Development.  During her time in Minnesota, she also volunteered with the Program for Human Sexuality at the University of Minnesota.  Catherine enjoys creative pursuits where she can translate her research into accessible and thought provoking art and performance.
